Tofu can be delicious! Preparation and seasonings have a huge impact on the end consistency and flavor. This recipe does not disappoint!
Ingredients:
- 10-12 oz firm or extra firm tofu, cut into half-inch thick slices
- 2 T tamari
- 2 T olive oil
- 2 T maple syrup
- Zest and juice of 1 large lemon
- 2 big garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp dried oreganoo
- Oil to grill (we like avocado oil or ghee!)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine the tamari, oil, male syrup, lemon zest and juice, salt, pepper, and oregano. Whisk well to combine as much as possible – the oil will want to separate.
- Press the tofu strips gently with paper towels to remove excess water, then place in a shallow baking pan in a single layer and pour the marinade over the tofu. Let this sit for 30 minutes, or ideally 1-2 hours.
- When ready to cook, wipe the garlic off the tofu (so it does not burn), and drain the marinade to save. Tofu can stick to grills, so if you can sear it on a ceramic non-stick pan over medium-high heat until golden, then transfer to a hot grill for caramelization. Or, sear in the skillet until deep golden on both sides (about 1-2 minutes).
- Remove the tofu and drizzle with the remaining marinade!
